James Colson Baker suffered from depression, and was unemployed as Sonia Alane abandoned them at the age of nine. Baker and his father relocated to Denver, where they lived in the home of his aunt's father. Others in the community were bullies Baker for being poor. In sixth grade, Baker began listening to hip-hop. Baker had released four mixtapes from 2007 to 2010 before signing with Bad Boy Records. This Cleveland rapper who raps lyrics as fast as bullets, saw a meteoric climb in late 2011 when he switched to self-publishing mixtapes instead of signing with reputable labels. From there his career skyrocketed and each album ranking among the top ten.
